Who, Where, Huh?

I live and work in Sacramento. I spend much of my time on the downtown grid. You might see me enjoying a pint at de Vere’s, blogging from my favorite spot in Java City, enjoying dinner on Paesano’s patio, or bump shoulders with me and my chocolate chihuahua on a Second Saturday Art Walk.

Some of my favorite places in Sacramento…

McKinley Park: Whether it’s running the loop, playing tennis (awfully play tennis), or throwing peanuts to the squirrels this has to be one of my favorite places to relax in Sacramento.

The Handle District: Hello Yogurtagogo! Only the BEST fro-yo in Midtown, L Wine Bar and Urban Kitchen offers awesome wine and totally hip yet relaxed atmosphere, Paesano’s the best pizza in Sacramento by a landslide, Zocalo’s easily the best Mexican Restaurant and Cantina on the grid, and of course my favorite place to blog while people watching has to be Java City, the Handle’s original coffee shop and local hang out.

Midtown: Come and walk the streets, shop the shops, and eat the food, it won’t take you long to figure out “why” for yourself. Midtown is fun place, full of life, character, and postive vibes!

If I could change anything about the SacTown Grid it would be…

I would love to see more people using bicycles as their main form of transportation, Fro-Yo would be all you can eat for $3, and guys with a handful or more of hair gel would not be allowed in from Citrus Heights.

In real life…

I’ve lived in and around Sacramento all life, I made a few short moves to Portland and North Lake Tahoe but here I am, happy to be back.

The first 18 years of my life were spent in the Sacramento Suburb, Carmichael. I liked it there, it was quiet, I learned to throw a baseball, kiss girls, and I dominated my street on my little red BMX bike. My Aunt Brianna lived just off of McKinley Park and 34th Street. She is where my affection and love for midtown came from.

My early childhood through my youth my aunt and I spent our time walking around midtown whenever I visited. Midtown was a magical place for me. Full of interesting people, Victorian homes full of character, and sidewalk cafes where we would sit and people watch for hours. Not much has changed since then…

Today I am the General Manager of one of Sacramento’s many Marriott Hotels. It’s not on the grid but it’s close enough that I am able to recommend all of my favorite places to my guests. I live with my dog Tuffy and a couple of feral cats. I started writing Grubzilla as a way to thank the people who make life on the SacTown Grid such a great place to live, visit, eat, shop, date, sip, party, or just be.

If you read Grubzilla please know that I will never recommend any place that I haven’t experienced myself and loved, I do not accept any compensation for anything I write about, and I am always hoping to find new places to visit! If you have any recommendations for an article or think there is a place or business I should experience, please drop me a line and I will!

I hope to see you on the Grid,

~Marko
